Technology transfer and commercialization go hand-in-hand. Through cooperation and collaboration with the University of Hawai`i at Mānoa’s Office of Technology Transfer and Economic Development (OTTED), the College of Engineering encourages and assists with the entrepreneurial efforts of research technology transfer as well as commercialization while OTTED facilitates the commercialization of new innovations arising from College of Engineering research by managing intellectual property.

The formal process captures the intellectual output of the College of Engineering research, secures it through patents and copyrights, and licenses it to public and private industry for the ultimate benefit of society as a whole. At the UH Mānoa College of Engineering, technology transfer and commercialization are viewed as additional avenues that the university educates the public about research discoveries and promotes economic growth.
