Welcome to NHSEMP!

Welcome to our website for the Native Hawaiian Science & Engineering Mentorship Program (NHSEMP) at UH Mānoa. NHSEMP strives to increase the advancement of underserved students in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). In particular, we reach out to Native Hawaiian, Polynesian, Alaska Native, and Native American pre-college, community college, undergraduate, and graduate students.


Our Mission is to provide assistance, opportunities, and community for students to excel in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Comprehensive support involving outreach, recruitment, retention, and placement strategies aim to increase the number of qualified individuals on a successful path to leadership in community, industry, and academia.

"UH Mānoa rocketry team racks up awards at national competition!" 

Our 2022 Ka Hui O Kaulele Rocket Team competed in the First Nations Launch High-powered Rocket Competition in April 2022 at Kenosha, WI.

The 2021 virtual NHSEMP Summer Research Symposium provided our summer participants with the opportunity to showcase their individual or group STEM research experiences and projects!  Congratulations to all of our summer participants with their success in the NHSEMP Freshman Bridge, NHSEMP Sophomore Success TRACs and HI PEEC II Mānoa Design Clinic programs!

NHSEMPʻs newest program, "On Track" just launched its website featuring the SP2021 semester collaboration with Lanaʻi High and Elementary School (LHES)! 9th-12th grade LHES students participated in BC 101 and FP 404 - they were introduced to HTML coding and received guidance and mentorship from NHSEMP On Track mentors to successfully complete and present their senior STEM Capstone projects.
