Dr. Patrick Takahashi retired in 2000 as Director Emeritus of the Hawai‘i Natural Energy Institute. He also served as a faculty member in the Department of Civil Engineering, acting associate dean of the College of Engineering, director for the Pacific International Center for High Technology Research, and took leave while at UH to serve on Senator Sparky Matsunaga’s staff. Dr. Takahashi’s first job upon graduation from Stanford with his BS was with C. Brewer sugar factory in Naʻālehu, Hawai‘i Island, which is the southernmost community in the United States.
