UH Engineering wins Engineers vs Contractors volleyball tournament
The University of Hawaiʻi College of Engineering came out on top after a hard-fought, three-set battle against returning finalist Sen Plex at this year’s Engineers vs Contractors Volleyball Tournament—hosted and fully sponsored by Victaulic.
This event was created to bring together the people who keep Hawaiʻi’s water infrastructure running—engineers, contractors, and everyone in between. The goal: build camaraderie, break down barriers, and make communication off the job site a little easier. With 231 players hitting the sand and over 450 in attendance, including family, friends, and coworkers, the mission was more than accomplished.
The energy was high all day, but the final match delivered a serious payoff. UH CoE edged out Sen Plex in three sets, closing the door on what could’ve been a redemption arc for the contractors. Brown & Caldwell, last year’s champs, fell to UH CoE in the semifinals. Hensel-Phelps Sand Island, meanwhile, had the most improved showing—going from near shutout status last year to a strong fourth-place finish.

The tournament was fully sponsored by Victaulic, with Waiākea stepping in to keep everyone hydrated—donating 1,728 bottles of water for athletes and spectators alike.
UH CoE team captain ‘Eleu Choy summed up the day best:
“It was a great opportunity to come together, reconnect with old colleagues, and make new friends. We’re grateful to the UH College of Engineering for sponsoring us and giving us the chance to represent them. We hope this stays an annual event because Hawaiʻi’s civil engineering community should always have a way to stay connected.”
