Prof. Murmann With Three Of His Graduating Students

UH Professor Boris Murmann receives 2024 Aristotle Award!

In the world of higher education, there are some who teach, and then there are those rare few who inspire—Professor Boris Murmann of the College of Engineering at the University of Hawaiʻi falls squarely into that second category.

Earlier today, Professor Murmann was honored with the 2024 Aristotle Award by the Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC), a recognition given to faculty who’ve made a lasting impact on both the educational experience and professional performance of their students. Over his distinguished career, Professor Murmann has guided more than 50 Ph.D. students through the often-difficult path to graduation, with many going on to distinguished careers. Among them, Dr. Drew Hall, now a professor at the University of California, San Diego, specializing in bioelectronics and sensor technology, and Echere Iroaga, Co-Founder and COO of Encharge AI, Inc., stand as prime examples of Murmann’s influence and mentorship.

Yet, Murmann’s contributions extend beyond the classroom and into the beating heart of the tech industry itself. Since 2004, he has been a trusted consultant to Silicon Valley companies, lending his expertise in circuit design to shape products that have become integral to daily life, from smartphones to edge devices.

Quietly, he has helped build the foundation for many of the innovations we now take for granted. And that, is why the 2024 Aristotle Award is more than fitting for Professor Murmann, who has managed to not only instruct but to innovate, bridging the gap between academic theory and practical application. His impact on the next generation of engineers and researchers will be felt for years to come.

This is yet another proud moment for the College of Engineering at the University of Hawaiʻi and for the countless students whose futures have been shaped by this dedicated educator. Professor Boris Murmann—a teacher, mentor, innovator, and now a recipient of one of the highest honors in his field.
