UH Engineering professor selected as Fulbright U.S. Scholar for South Korea
Dr. Chunhee Cho, associate professor and graduate chair in the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Department of Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering, has been selected as a Fulbright U.S. Scholar for 2026–2027 and will carry out his Fulbright work in South Korea.
Cho’s research focuses on structural engineering, smart sensing, wireless sensor systems, and structural health monitoring. His work supports the development of tools and methods to assess and improve infrastructure systems.
“I am honored to receive this Fulbright U.S. Scholar Award and grateful for the opportunity to build stronger academic and research collaborations between UH Mānoa and Hanyang University in South Korea, particularly in the areas of structural engineering, smart sensing, and infrastructure resilience,” Cho said.
The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program offers scholars opportunities to teach, conduct research, and build long-term international academic partnerships. Cho’s selection recognizes his academic leadership and supports new opportunities for collaboration between UH Mānoa and institutions in South Korea.
Fulbright Scholar Awards are among the nation’s most prestigious international fellowships. The program is designed to strengthen scholarly exchange, expand professional networks, and create lasting benefits for both host and home institutions.
For the UH College of Engineering, Cho’s award highlights the global reach of its faculty and the college’s commitment to research, teaching, and international collaboration.
