Selected Honolulu Roadways

Intersection of Piikoi (left to right) with Beretania. A common problem
here is the back-up of the lane on Piikoi leading to the Lunalilo
on-ramp to H-1, WB. It can be observed than one vehicle blocks the right
most lane on Beretania. Intersection blockage, mostly during peak periods,
is a chronic problem at this location.

The King/Beretania/University intersection typically develops long
queues
partly due to the very long cycle lengths used. The single left turn lanes from King EB to University and from University SB to King still provide insufficient capacity.

Excessive queuing and spillbacks are observed along Vineyard Blvd. EB.
Shorter cycles are likely to decrease the length of queues on Vineyard and provide more capacity for the traffic departing from the CBD.

From very early in the morning all downtown-bound approaches along
Nimitz Hwy. intersections operate poorly and long queues are visible.
