2009 Jr. Engineering Expo
January 30, 2009
More than 450 middle school students and teachers participated in the College of Engineering's 2009 Jr. Engineering Expo. Students were able to test their skills at various engineering-related games, which included: Coaster Mania! Competition (sponsored by American Society of Civil Engineers Student Chapter and Chi Epsilon Honor Society), Engineering and Science Hexathlon Competition (sponsored by Society of Women Engineers Student Chapter), Marshmallow Launcher (sponsored by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Student Chapter and Society of Automotive Engineers Student Chapter), Popsicle Stick Bridge Competition (sponsored by ASCE Hawaii Section), and the Solar Powered Car Competition (sponsored by Eta Kappa Nu Honor Society and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Student Chapter). Trophies were presented to the top three teams in each of the competitions. Besides formal games, students learned more about engineering through the Engineering Exhibition, which included demonstrations and hands-on activities from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Hawaii (ACECH), Referentia, Oceanit, the Society of Physics Students, and the U.S. Coast Guard. Thank you to all the game coordinators, exhibitors, and College of Engineering students/faculty/staff for helping to make a successful event!
