Mission and Vision

Mission

The mission of our College of Engineering is to:

  • Provide an accredited program of undergraduate engineering education to students at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.
  • Assist the community in attracting students to higher educational opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) from K-12 institutions and community colleges, especially from Hawai‘i.
  • Provide continuing education and professional services to the engineering community in Hawai‘i and wherever these services will enhance the growth of the College’s overall capacity.
  • Provide research and graduate education opportunities to students worldwide, within the context of a faculty driven extramurally funded research program that leverages the resources of the University of Hawai‘i and its partners in Hawai‘i; and participate in the growth of the technological workforce and technology-based industry in Hawai‘i  through student graduation and technology transfer.

Vision

Our College’s vision is to:

  • Be recognized within the Pacific Rim for its unique and distinctive characteristics emanating from its roots in the Hawaiian and Pacific Island communities, its oceanic environment, and its East-meets-West location.
  • Deliver a significant proportion of the engineering and construction sector’s workforce to the state of Hawai‘i and play an important role in attracting and retaining high technology personnel and companies to the state of Hawai‘i.
  • Be the recipient of a stellar national reputation for its programs rooted in its 100 year-old teaching tradition that attracts an increasing number of the state of Hawai‘i’s K-12 students to the College’s programs.
  • Support an internationally competitive extramural research agenda and be recognized as “National Class” through steadily improving rankings.
