HSPE State Officer Installation and Welcome Address
On June 15, 2007, a new slate of officers for the Hawaii Society of Professional Engineers (HSPE) 2007-2008 term were installed by Robert Miller, P.E., President of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE). On behalf of all of the Officers, I would like to extend our Aloha to all of you in the HSPE Ohana and invite you to share any suggestions you may have on how we can best meet your needs.
We expect the coming year to be exciting and rewarding. In July, NSPE holds its annual conference for all members filled with educational workshops and networking opportunities. This year’s conference will be held in Denver, Colorado. The annual conference is also the time where governance meetings are held which involves all members who serve on National committees, including State Delegates and those on the Board of Directors. Our current State Delegate, Manny Lanuevo, will be proudly representing Hawaii at the House of Delegates meeting. Also serving at the National committee level are Eric Yamashige (NSPE Ethics Committee), Clyde Nagata (PEI Director), Curt Beck (PEI incoming Western & Pacific Region Vice-Chair, and myself (current PEI Western & Pacific Region Vice-Chair and State Delegate-elect).
Upcoming local activities include the HSPE Educational Foundation Golf Tournament fundraiser, announcement of our 2007 college scholarship award recipients, and the 2008 MATHCOUNTS Competitions for the Chapters and State. Please keep an eye out for additional information on these great programs and events. Your continued generous support is vital to the success of these programs for our future engineers and HSPE members!
In the meantime, if you have any suggestions or thoughts to share with your new HSPE Officers, please don’t hesitate to contact any of us. We look forward to serving you over the coming year.
Aloha,
Barry Nakamoto, P.E.
HSPE State President
